Bio-catalytic processes for defined starting molecules

c-LEcta is specialized in the provision of new bio-catalytic transformations on defined starting molecules. By bio-catalytic processes new functional groups can be introduced, site chains can be modified or defined functional groups can be transformed. Enzymes can act not only in a very enantioselective way, but also show a very high stereo-selectivity.

Thereby complex chemical protection group strategies can be easily avoided. New routes towards new structural diversity can be added to a starting molecule by using c-LEcta’s bio-catalysis technology. This offers the discovery of new functional properties of your starting molecule in a very straight forward way.

Discovery of new enzymes for bio-catalytic transformations

In order to identify new enzymatic activities in nature c-LEcta has expanded and implies a huge collection of biodiversity libraries. The company owns a large collection of isolated and qualified micro-organisms comprising more than 10,000 different organisms. Besides, large collections of metagenome libraries from different well-defined habitats have been produced and are available.

This in combination provides a broad and unique access to biodiversity for the discovery of new enzymes for bio-catalytic transformations. For the screening of the libraries a patent-protected technology called cluster-screening is used. It allows the identification of new enzyme activities in enzyme libraries with unrivalled effectiveness and speed.

Engineering of enzymes by artificial evolution

Besides the discovery of new enzymes in natural sources c-LEcta also takes care of the development of artificial enzymes by enzyme engineering technologies. The company applies a patent-protected mutagenesis technology to create focussed variant libraries of enzymes.

These libraries are screened with c-LEcta’s cluster-screening technology. This unique combination of technologies allows the provision of artificially made biocatalysts with completely new properties and activities.

The combination of natural diversity screening and enzyme engineering technologies allows c-LEcta to rapidly develop and provide almost any desired enzyme activity for its partner’s needs. The reaction spectrum of bio-transformations provided by c-LEcta ranges from hydroxylations, epoxidations, and transamination to esterifications and ketone reductions.
