SMS Temp Critical are a transport company specialising in the dedicated transportation of temperature sensitive pharmaceutical and biotech products across Europe by road in fully validated vehicles.

Clinical trial transport

All of our customers’ products are valuable and temperature sensitive. The correct handling of these products and the GDP compliance necessary to transport them is something that SMS takes very seriously, as we are not only legally, but also morally responsible for the product while in our care.

Cold chain and pharmaceutical transport

SMS Temp Critical have been involved in cold chain transport for five years and fully understands the pharmaceutical industry, and has made the necessary investment in both people and equipment.

Full breakdown coverage and driver training

All our employees are trained in good distribution practices (GDP) which is a high priority at SMS, together with having the correct vehicle specification and back-up equipment.

If there is a mechanical fault with the refrigeration unit, temperature recorder or vehicle engine while in Europe with our customer’s 2°C - 8°C products onboard, it is important that a procedure is in place to prevent a possible temperature excursion. Having full European breakdown coverage and quick response times together with driver training are essential.

Temperature journey report

After each journey the customer has the facility to print off a temperature journey report in both numerical and a very serious graphical format. This can also be downloaded in a PDF format.

SMS are firm believers in total transparency. All SMS customers have the facility to view their load while the vehicle is on-route anywhere in Europe in real-time. For security, SMS have time slot-tracking, which only allows a nominated vehicle to be viewed by the customer from the SMS website. With ever changing legislation, dual driver teams are also available for time-sensitive and secure freight.

Special deadlocks are installed on all smaller vans both at the loading area, and the drivers cab. For larger trailers special pharmaceutical-approved door locks are used. All SMS vehicles have satellite tracking.

SMS have a UKAS approved ISO 9001-2000 quality management system with the Swiss company SGS, and are regularly audited on comliance by existing and new customers in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector.
