Almac - ‘Business of the Year Award is Company Milestone’

The Almac Group, headquartered in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, with further sites across the UK and USA, is celebrating success after being named ‘Business of the Year’ by Northern Ireland’s main daily newspaper, The Belfast Telegraph, in association with BMI.
Competing against the cream of Northern Ireland’s business talent, Almac was recognised for its contribution to the knowledge economy and growing success in competing in global markets despite the economic downturn.
Almac picked up the overall ‘Business of the Year’ accolade, building on their success earlier in the evening as winner of the category for ‘Excellence in Exporting Achievement’. The company was recently named ‘Exporter of the Year’ by Northern Ireland’s economic development agency Invest NI. Almac is one of the largest exporters in the Northern Ireland economy and in 2008 saw export sales generate over 70% of the company turnover.
Almac Group CEO Alan Armstrong expressed his pride in the recognition and said he expected 2009 to be an exciting year for the company. “Winning the ‘Excellence in Export Achievement’ was a great accomplishment for Almac at Northern Ireland’s main business awards, but to be recognised as our local economy’s top business will be remembered as a milestone in Almac’s development for many years to come.”
“Our strong growth is testament to our focus on innovation, quality and dedication of the entire team across the Almac Group. We are continuing to grow with 2008 seeing staff numbers in Northern Ireland rise by 15% to 1,428 and in the US by 10% to 762; so far in 2009 we have extended our staff by a further 180. In addition, appropriately on St. Patrick’s Day, our new $112m US headquarters in Lower Salford Township, Pennsylvania reached the landmark stage of its ‘Topping Off’ ceremony. I’d like to thank all our staff for their contribution to this fantastic recognition. I am confident that it is only the latest award as Almac continues to develop new market-leading products and services for our customers,” Mr Armstrong concluded.
