Syrris - Automated Laboratory Reactors, Flow Chemistry and Microreactor Systems

Syrris creates automated products for research and development chemists and is a world leader in flow chemistry, microreactor and automation technology. Syrris products are used in a wide variety of applications and laboratories including process, discovery, crystallisation, process safety, scale-up and many more. Syrris has offices in the UK, USA, Japan and India, as well as over 30 distributors worldwide.

Syrris products include the innovative range of fully automated batch reactor products (Atlas), which includes the Atlas Calorimeter (for HFC and PCC) and the flow chemistry systems (FRX and Africa).

Automated laboratory reactors

Atlas is a high performance, low cost synthesis system that is flexible and truly easy to use. The intelligent base can be configured to control one or many reactions at scales from µl to 5l in vials, flasks or jacketed reactors.

A selection of Atlas applications in discovery and process development:

  • Reaction optimisation
  • Reaction development
  • Process screening
  • Process analytical technology
  • Scale-up chemistry
  • Crystallisation
  • FT-IR analysis
  • Parallel chemistry
  • Calorimetry and many more

Atlas systems are easy to use, automated, quick, robust and safe. They have a small footprint and offer full data capture, high-performance hotplate or circulator temperature control, and high-performance magnetic or overhead stirring.

Atlas can be configured into a wide range of different systems, including:

  • Atlas Lithium: automates reactions in flasks or vials
  • Atlas Sodium: automates viscous reactions in round bottom flasks
  • Atlas Potassium: performs reactions in jacketed reactors
  • Atlas Calorimeter: heat flow calorimetry and power compensation calorimetry
  • Atlas Volumetric Dosing: system includes the atlas syringe pump
  • Atlas Gravimetric Dosing: system with a controlled peristaltic pump
  • Atlas pH Monitoring and Control: system includes a pH sensor and doses reagents to control pH
  • Atlas Software: controls Atlas hardware, but also devices from third parties
  • Atlas Calorimeter: high performance, easy to use HFC and PCC
  • Atlas SonoLab: crystallisation control, sonomilling and sonochemistry
  • Atlas FT-IR: FT-IR Spectrometer system for in situ reaction monitoring
  • Atlas Parallel Systems: up to eight Atlas jacketed reactors or rb flasks, to be controlled from one PC
  • Atlas Remote Mount: for remote control of up to 5l
  • Atlas Hot and Cold Plate: easy way of heating and cooling reactions
  • Atlas Vial Baths: heating or cooling parallel vial reactions
  • Orbit: high performance, low cost parallel synthesis module
  • Dry Bath: heating or cooling round bottom flasks

Flow chemistry systems - FRX

The FRX flow chemistry system from Syrris makes flow chemistry cost effective, easy to use, understandable and affordable. FRX is made up of a number of modules that can be connected together to form simple yet powerful flow chemistry systems. These provide:

  • Faster and cleaner reactions: increase reaction rates over 100-fold by superheating reactions significantly above reflux
  • Inline aqueous work-up: two immiscible phases can be mixed and separated in flow, immediately following the reaction
  • Safer reactions: only small amounts of material react at any time, minimising exotherms and the quantity of any hazardous intermediates
  • Rapid development: reaction time, temperature and equivalents can be rapidly varied using milligrams of substrate
  • Scale-up: production rates up by kilograms overnight
  • Chemically resistant: glass and PTFE reactors allow a wide range of chemistry
  • Compact size: FRX systems fit easily into standard fume cupboards

Microreactor flow system - Africa

Africa is a fully automated, flexible and easy-to-use microreactor flow system. The Africa system allows R&D chemists working in discovery and process development to accelerate compound synthesis and reaction optimisation.

  • Walk away synthesis: fully automated hardware controlled by Africa software to enable unattended runs
  • Faster reactions: increase reaction rates over 100-fold by superheating reactions above reflux
  • Cleaner reactions: reduced impurities via excellent, reproducible reaction control
  • Inline aqueous work-up: the Flow Liquid Liquid Extraction Module (FLLEX) enables two immiscible phases to be mixed and separated in flow, immediately following the reaction
  • Online analysis: a sample of reaction mixture can be taken, diluted and analysed by HPLC
  • Scale-up: production rates up to kg overnight
  • Rapid development: reaction time, temperature and equivalents can be rapidly varied using mg of substrate
  • Wide temperature range: Heat reactions up to 300°C or cool down to 0°C
  • Chemically resistant: glass and PTFE / fluoropolymer wetted parts
  • Safer reactions: only small amounts of material react at any time, minimising exotherms and the quantity of any hazardous intermediates
