The efficacy of Xolair has been investigated in a series of clinical trials which included two pivotal phase III placebo-controlled trials in over 1,000 allergic asthma patients.
Xolair works by binding to free immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood to prevent mast cell degranulation and the release of pharmacologically active substances that are the hallmark of the early allergic inflammatory process. (Source: ABPI)
It is believed that Xolair will be first marketed as maintenance therapy for the prophylaxis of asthma exacerbations and control of asthma symptoms.

Summary of major and minor diagnostic criteria for CHF derived from the Framingham Heart Study.
CHF is a progressive disease, which if left untreated leads inexorably to acute heart failure and potentially death.
Triggering a heartbeat. Calcium floods into heart cells through the calcium channel at each beat, which releases internal stored calcium (blue arrows). This causes the muscle to contract. Three calcium channel blockers act at different sites in this calcium channel. There are also sodium-potassium channels where digoxin acts and a separate sodium-calcium exchange channel.
